Glen Ellyn's New Metra Station Is Coming — Construction Could Start Fall 2027
October 8, 2026

GLEN ELLYN, IL —
Glen Ellyn's plan to replace its 1960s-era Union Pacific West Metra station is nearing the end of engineering, and the village says construction could begin as soon as fall 2027. The project includes a new station building and platforms, an ADA-accessible pedestrian underpass beneath the tracks, new warming shelters, expanded bicycle parking, better sidewalks, and accessible drop-off and pick-up areas on both sides of the tracks. It also folds in the fourth phase of the downtown streetscape work: new underground utilities and rebuilt streets on Crescent Boulevard between Main and Park and on Forest Avenue between Duane and Pennsylvania. Final engineering is about 95% done and should be substantially complete by the end of 2026. Still to come: Plan Commission and Village Board design and zoning reviews this fall, plus easements from Union Pacific, with the village expecting to make the railroad an offer by the end of the year. If that goes well, bidding is expected in summer 2027.
